Life Through Music: “Sailing” by Christopher Cross

It’s funny to me how a song that I have heard many times over the years can still seem different. I have talked about music doing this to me before and I will probably never get over this kind of thing happening because it’s what I really love about music.

One of the other songs I listen to many times during the month of June, besides last week’s song of the week, was this wonderful soft jam by Christopher Cross called “Sailing”. Some call his style of music “Yacht Rock” which I find hilarious, but I love the song anyway. The song I picked from him represents part of a new me that has come around recently.

I don’t know if it was because of the process of me lightening the load (that is my life) last month so I could preparing to move out of the place I lived in for the last 5 years. Maybe it was the repercussions of just me changing my focus in life quite a bit since my mother passed on. Well, it’s probably been a combination of both and its setting me up for a much different path that I have ever thought myself to go down. That is the thing I have learned with the loss of my mother is that I have no idea what is next and because of that I have spent less time trying to figure that out.

I really have tried less to plan life out and instead find more peace with riding the flow of life. That is why I connected to this song so much recently because it has the similar sense of flow to it that matches how I have been feeling in 2014. Like a grain of sand blowing in the wind I am.

I’m not a sailor by any means because quite frankly the deep ocean creeps me out, but something about being on the front of a ship with nothing more than the wind and sun on my face sounds so wonderful to me. That feeling of having a magnitude of openness that is right in front of me with the feeling I can go anywhere.

To be able to feel the openness and the unknown that life gives you in every moment of our lives. I feel my soul lifting just a bit more. This new found freedom is such a breath of fresh air. I need more of this. This feeling is the one thing that I will strive to get more of for the rest of my life.
I have no idea what is around the next corner and for me there is some peace in that. The possibilities are so abundant and waiting. If the wind is right....

Lyrics:

"Sailing"

Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see
Believe me

(It is simpler and simpler for me to feel like I’m in paradise these days. To really appreciate what is here right now instead of what I think should be. If you want you can come along and find your peace as well. I believe. Do you?)

It's not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see
Believe me

(Sure I could wish and hope to go back to the good times all I want, but it’s more important to create more of what I miss from those past moments into the present.)

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

(It’s more than a dream. I will be free.)

Fantasy, it gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie, every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

(The peace and joy that I have heard many talk of is possible and the winds of change are washing over me to show me that it is real.)

Well it's not far back to sanity, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see
Believe me

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

(Free)

Life is an open canvas...what will you paint next?

Thanks for coming along this journey with me. As always I bring this to you with so much love and pure D-lite. =)
