Life Through Music: “Lucky” by Daft Punk

It’s back. The groove that is. It wasn’t till I started hearing snippets of Daft Punks newest album that I realized how much we as a music collective had lost the groove. The are definitely albums that come a long in life and set the trend for the music of the coming future. Daft Punk’s newest album entitled Random Access Memories is one of those albums.

I can say so much about this album already that it is kind of ridiculous. One thing that I found out about this album recently is that the French dance electronic duo had been working on this album since 2008. Now, I wish more artists would take notice of how good of music you can make if you really take your time and put in the work. That makes this album 4 to 5 years old by the time that it was released. Even so this album is so different and futuristic than most music I have heard currently. It’s not just a sound of the future however it is also a mix of the groove of the past. There is quite a bit of influence of the disco scene from the 70’s mixed in as well. Which I find very funny because over the last year I have really been digging the 70’s music scene myself.

I’m not going to lie and say that I really liked Daft Punk’s album before this newest edition because I was actually let down quite by that album. This new album is a breathe of fresh air in comparison and gives me the hope I needed that Daft Punk can still make great music. I was very impressed and hopefully after their work on the newest TRON movie.  Well, now I have proof that they are definitely back.

Daft Punk did so many great and new approaches to making this album. The music that is on Random Access Memories is very different from all their other albums they have made so far. Instead of creating all the music themselves with samples, drum machines, and all other electronic devices they have used in the past they instead had many very talented artist come in play live instruments on the album. They more or less produced, composed, and fine tuned this album more than creating it from the ground up, What came out of their hard work with other artist is just a well rounded and solid piece of musical genius.

So, of course I have to pick the first single off the album which is called “Lucky” by Daft Punk as my song of the week. I picked the song because the moment I heard it I knew that great things were on the way. This song is so infectious and if you can’t dance a little to this song then I suggest you reassess your life. Just a great dance track with such a sweet groove. It’s a song that I’m sure is going to get played out for most people, but this is why I don’t listen to the radio much anymore. I hope that the radio moves to another one of the songs on this album because there is so many to choose from in my opinion. This album is now my current waking up in the morning and getting ready for the day CD. It definitely helps me start the day off right in such a positive direction.

Love it. Love music.

So, lets look at the lyrics directly and see if there is more to this dance hit than just digging that sweet sweet groove.

"Get Lucky"
(feat. Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers)

Like the legend of the phoenix
All ends with beginnings
What keeps the planet spinning (uh)
The force of love beginning

(So true. Love is such a powerful thing. Out of struggle comes rebirth.)

(Look)

We've come too far to give up who we are
So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars

(Yes, I have come too far to ever give up who I am. It’s time to take it to the next level. Become greater than we already are.)

She's up all night 'til the sun
I'm up all night to get some
She's up all night for good fun
I'm up all night to get lucky

(Now, most people are equating this part of the lyrics as in you're hoping to get some action with a loved one. For me it’s not even about being intimate its about that excitement of when you are first getting to know someone. That feeling that keeps you up all night bathing in the possibilities of a new connection.)

We're up all night 'til the sun
We're up all night to get some
We're up all night for good fun
We're up all night to get lucky

We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky

The present has no ribbon
Your gift keeps on giving,
What is this I'm feeling?
If you wanna leave I'm ready (ah)

(I hope that everyone has felt this feeling he is trying describe here. Truly a magical experience of meeting someone special.)

We've come too far to give up who we are
So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars

She's up all night 'til the sun
I'm up all night to get some
She's up all night for good fun
I'm up all night to get lucky

We're up all night 'til the sun
We're up all night to get some
We're up all night for good fun
We're up all night to get lucky

We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky

(I chose to end the lyrics here because it just does a lot of repeating the same chorus over and over and doesn’t sound as good without the music playing behind it.)

So, what I have here is another great album to add to the collection and we aren’t even half way through this year of 2013. My final assessment of the album for those that want to know is that I love every song on the album. It really is that good. It is what I call some ear candy for my ears. I say that because from the quality of work put in by those two Frenchmen on an audio recording level the sound is just truly amazing. Such a great variety of music on the album as well. Such a positive groove to keep me dancing from now until forever. Thank you Daft Punk. Perfect timing as well because Daft Punk’s album Discovery is one of my all time summer albums. Well, now I have two to play during summer time. Till next week just keep on dancing.

As always I bring this to you with love and pure D-lite. = )
